Just because Earth Day is over does not mean that Cabot Oil & Gas is slowing down on its green efforts.
Did you know Cabot is using less water in their operations compared to most other oil and gas companies?
The oil and gas industry alone accounts for 1% of the national water usage. This is actually quite small compared to most agricultural, electric and water supply companies in the America.
The Natural Gas Industry relies heavily on water to fulfill many of its operations, such as drilling. Water can play many roles in the process, such as acting as a cool lubricant for the drill, or allowing more gas to flow to the surface in hydraulic fracking.
Although the Industry does not use large amounts of water, oil and gas companies still consider water as a precious resource that should be conserved. Because of this, Cabot makes it a goal to recycle 100% of the drilling and completing fluids, like water, through a closed-loop system.
This closed loop water system captures and contains “all the fluids used in drilling, completion and product operations.” Once the water is recovered, it is transported to a treatment facility and is recycled.
George Stark, the Director of External Affairs at Cabot Oil & Gas, commented on the new system.
“It’s very important that we recycle, reuse and reduce the wastewater that we generate while harvesting natural gas resources,” said Stark.
Cabot created a video this past winter describing their efforts to preserve water in more detail for the public’s viewing.
As stated in the video, Cabot has also partnered with ComTech Industries to help treat and recycle Cabot’s recovered water in Susquehanna County, Pa.
Water is not just a precious resource for Cabot. You too can help conserve water!
One easy way is to turn off your sink water when brushing your teeth. You can also shorten your shower time, and only run your washing machine or dishwasher when they have full loads.
