Well Said has featured information about pipelines before, especially with the more recent expansion of pipeline companies and the growing need for natural gas infrastructure. Pipelines however, can carry more than just natural gas. There are water lines, crude oil lines, propane etc. Any one or a combination of these lines could be underneath your property. An important rule of pipeline safety is to call before you dig. We have featured 811 on Well Said in the past. 811 is the federally-mandated national “Call Before You Dig” number that was established to protect you from accidentally hitting underground utility lines.
How it worksThe 811 website goes into detail about the services and information that they offer to landowners. The slogan “Call Before You Dig,” doubles as simple instructions. When you call 811 you get connected to a local call center and describe your digging project to the operator. The call center will then inform your utilities company to come out and mark your lines allowing you to dig safely.
Spreading the word about 811
During one of its many advertising and awareness campaigns 811 hired the advertising team of I Wear Your Shirt. The company’s basic platform is advertising through graphic t-shirts. They also create some truly entertaining social media content in which they incorporate their client’s sponsored t-shirt.
So for this week’s Video Tuesday we have one of the many YouTube videos that the I Wear Your Shirt team created for 811.
CGAThe Common Ground Alliance is the organization behind 811. The goal of the CGA is, “To work with all industry stakeholders in an effort to prevent damage to underground utility infrastructure and ensure public safety and environmental protection.”
