This week’s #FF is @EnergyDayFest: the family-friendly festival that seeks to keep school-aged children engaged in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education. The daylong event is presented by the Consumer Energy Alliance and the University of Houston.
We caught up with Shawn Martini and Kathleen Koehler with the Consumer Energy Alliance, who told us all about the fun filled festival going on this Saturday, October, 19 at Hermann Square City Hall in Houston, Texas from 11 am to 5 pm.
The main goal of this festival is community outreach and education through different activities. Kathleen and Shawn mentioned that our growing energy industry is facing a shortage of qualified candidates in the fields of engineering, science, and skill-based career paths in the oil industry. Energy Day focuses on keeping children alert to the types of jobs that will be a key driver of our nations employment in the next several decades.
Over 15,000 people are expected to attend the Energy Day Fest.  With interactive energy exhibits, contests, music, and food, it is sure to be fun for all ages!
What is a fun fact about Energy Day Fest?                 
The Energy Day Academic Program awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to dozens of school kids during the festival.

What do you think is the most interesting aspect of @EnergyDayFest
Providing a platform to embrace energy and STEM education in a family-friendly manner and through an educational lens. Most school-aged kids are only told about the problems associated with energy production, and Energy Day helps to provide context and a better understanding about the role of energy in our daily lives. That’s a unique experience for kids today.
How is this year’s Energy day different from the last?This year we have expanded our list of participants and booths for       attendees to visit. There is so much more to see and do!
