This week’s #FF @NewPigEnergy has great stuff to protect you from leaks, drips and spills.
We had the opportunity to speak with Kristie Carruthers over at New Pig Energy.  Kristie provided us with all the insight on the new “Well Pad Division” who recently split from New Pig in January (2013) to form their own subsidiary – New Pig Energy (NPE.)

The award-winning PIG Absorbent Sock, was the first solution New Pig came up with, and Today they offer more than 4000 products to help protect the environment and keep workers safe. More than 70 countries and 200,000 sites use PIG products today.
In 2011, New Pig invented the PIG Well Pad Containment Liner to provide tight, safe, site-containment at natural gas drilling sites.  Since then, the Liner has won two Environmental Protection awards and has become the new standard for drill site protection.

How does New Pig work alongside the oil and natural gas industry?
As frac’ing in the Marcellus Shale became a reality, New Pig stepped up to share experience and provide product solutions. To make sure the environment remains protected, our solutions are increasingly being adopted as best management practices by drilling companies throughout the region.
What is New Pig’s Energy’s most popular product?
New Pig Energy was built around the award-winning PIG Well Pad Liner.  The Liner features the best puncture and tear resistance available, so any liquids that come in contact with it are contained. The pad is 4x stronger than standard HDPE liners and has a NFSI certified, non-slip surface on both sides.  Additionally, the Pig Well Pad Liner is recyclable -it doesn’t need to go to a land fill. No other liner has New Pig Energy’s combination of toughness, slip resistance, and recyclability.
What role does Twitter have for @NewPigEnergy?
NPE wants to be THE resource for the Shale industry’s containment issues. Hopefully our social marketing efforts will be as successful as our efforts in other areas, but right now, it’s too soon to tell.  We would love to have you all as followers!
Where did the company get the idea for the name “New Pig”?
New Pig’s original absorbent sock prototype was a 40-inch nylon sleeve filled with ground corncob. When its absorbency was tested in a pool of dirty oil, it was called a pig because it looked like it was wallowing in sludge. The name stuck. Customers loved it and so did our employees!
The product was named the PIG® Absorbent Sock and “Pig Corporation” was chosen for the company.  Turns out, that name was already registered to a Pennsylvania farmer, so our co-founder simply added the word “new” at the beginning to create “New Pig Corporation.”
