Our friends over at Kenworth of Pennsylvania took some time to show off their new CNG truck, the Kenworth Model T440. This heavy duty truck is powered by a Cummins ISL-G spark ignited engine capable of generating 320hp. What’s more amazing, the engine is 100% fueled by CNG.
The truck’s fuel tanks can hold the equivalent of 90 gallons of diesel or approximately 350 miles worth of CNG right- around the average fuel consumption for a vehicle this size.
“Bringing it back from Ft. Pierce, Indiana I only had to make two stops: Canton, Ohio and St. College, Pennsylvania,” said Randy Rutherford, Kenworth of Pa.
As for driving this heady-duty CNG truck, Randy explained, “Good power, quick response but most notable is overall quietness of the truck.” One of the more overlooked benefits of CNG engines is the sound reduction which, in some cases, can be 80-90% lower decibel levels than comparable vehicles.
Kenworth of Pennsylvania offers a full range of CNG and LNG vehicles up to 400hp. Each truck, including this one is capable of many different configurations including dump body, roll off and flatbed.
With the increasing availability of natural gas fueling stations, lower fuel costs than diesel, and incentives from agencies such as the PA Department of Environmental Protection, more and more companies are converting their vehicles to run on natural gas. From CNG to LNG, conversions to natural gas are not just good for their owners pocketbooks but also the environment.
With those kinds of benefits, we can expect to see more CNG trucks on the road in the future!
