Over the last few years Montrose Rotary has held a fundraising plant-sale to benefit local charities. This event is known as “Rotary on the Green.” In the past groups like the 4-H and the hospital have benefited from this annual plant-sale. This year the Rotary chose True Friends Animal Welfare Shelter, a non-profit, no-kill organization, protecting the lives of homeless animals as the recipient.
Cabot has worked with this organization extensively over the last few years (see more here and here) and donated $7,800 from its last sporting clay tournament. To help make this event successful, Cabot decided to underwrite the cost of the plants being sold. This ensured that all funding raised benefited the shelter, not overhead costs.
Ruth Willmarth, of the Montrose Rotary, had this to say about the event: “Despite the cold and very windy weather in the parking lot of ShurSave, it was very successful. Lots and lots of people braved the elements to show their support for both Rotary and the animal shelter.” In fact the event was so successful that all of the plants were purchased except for a handful Ruth donated to the animal shelter.
In addition to plants Rotary also set up a food stand to attract more donations. For $3 shoppers could enjoy a fresh cooked gourmet hotdog with toppings like homemade chili, sauerkraut and the usual ketchup, mustard and relish. Over 150 hot dogs were sold during Rotary on the Green.
