We have entered June and the time for action on a finalized state budget is kicking into high gear. There are several major policy pieces on the table and they are all somewhat linked into a massive budget agreement.  We at Cabot are stepping up our efforts to provide you with our views on the impacts of one of those major issues: Severance Tax.
We have discussed this topic before, but we are going to feature more Severance Tax facts and information.  Additionally, we are going to have a variety of voices heard from residents of Susquehanna County to small business owners to local educators.
The proposed Severance Tax has the ability to alter the economics of the Marcellus shale development here in the Commonwealth. Current jobs are at risk, future employment will go to states with more competitive tax structures (not punitive ones), natural gas industries will fail to locate their plants here, and investment will be stifled.
It’s critical that we have a fact based discussion on this matter and actual data is utilized and understood.  Too much is at risk; economic development, energy security, education, jobs, environment. All of these areas will be affected by the decisions of elected officials in Harrisburg.
Please, visit this blog often, gather facts and data, and most importantly, used them to help tell your story. You can also sign up here to get our updates delivered directly to your email inbox.
Our elected officials need to hear from land owners, employees, community leaders, outdoorsmen, educators, environmentalist and families — do all you can to help get real people to talk about actual information to help inform our elected officials.
We cannot risk our futures on the policies offered by Governor Tom Wolf. Too much is at stake.  Please make your voice heard on this important matter.
