This week is the annual Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. In its 98th year, the 2014 PA Farm Show is the largest indoor agricultural event in the United States.  The Farm Show Complex (a truly amazing building if you’ve never seen it) encompasses 24 acres throughout 11 buildings. The complex even has three arenas.

The event started this past Saturday, and over 300 vendors and exhibitors are registered to display, sell and educate. There will also feature 10,000 competitive exhibits and an estimated 6,000 animals.
By the end of the weeklong event, half a million visitors are expected to attend. To say this event is big would be something of an understatement.

This year Cabot is participating in a unique way.
The Marcellus Shale Collation (MSC) is setting up a production wellhead as part of a larger, two acre exhibit called the modern farm. The primary goal of this exhibit is to demonstrate how small a disturbance natural gas development will have on a farm, the equipment being used and the production life-cycle of the well. The Cabot External Affairs team will be there Tuesday & Wednesday to help man the booth and answer questions.

The MSC will be distributing a brochure detailing the economic importance to the farmer, the community and the state.
For example:

  • $750 million has been invested by PA’s shale industry in road and infrastructure improvements since 2008
  • $406.7 million has been distributed to local communities through the Impact Fee

As in years past, Cabot will also participate in the 4-H auction. If you have never been to a 4-H auction, they are a lot of fun and all proceeds support the 4-H youth participants.
