Lackawanna College School of Petroleum & Natural Gas continues to build momentum with another exciting partnership. Borton-Lawson, one of the nation’s Top
500 design firms
, announced it will work with the school to design a measurement lab to facilitate further educational expansion.

This lab will feature measurement equipment used by the natural gas industry throughout the country. Some of the equipment being considered in the lab includes orifice, ultrasonic, turbine and diaphragm gas meters as well as different types of chokes, values and regulators. The lab will be set up in sections so a centralized source of air flow can power multiple pieces of equipment simultaneously.
School of Petroleum & Natural Gas Director Rick Marquardt is extremely excited to add a measurement lab to the schools already robust offerings:

“The primary focus of this lab is to train students how to set up, calibrate, read and troubleshoot each piece of measurement equipment. The lab will provide hands-on-learning to compliment the textbook theories students are already learning in the classroom. With a broad range of equipment to learn on our students will be empowered to work not only in the Marcellus Shale region but across the country as well.”

Borton-Lawson CEO Christopher Borton, PE, had this to say about the unique project:

“Borton-Lawson is proud to use its expertise and skills to give back to the community. We hope to help Lackawanna’s School of Petroleum & Natural Gas fulfill its vision of becoming a nationally-recognized, first in class program in the field of petroleum and natural gas technology.”

Borton-Lawson President Frank Joanlanne followed Chris’s statements with:

“Lackawanna College’s School of Petroleum & Natural Gas is a vital resource for our region. It prepares students to work in the gas industry. Clean and affordable natural gas in our region is here to stay, and Borton-Lawson is excited to continue to grow and offer technical support to the industry.”

Borton-Lawson is no stranger to the Marcellus Shale natural gas industry. Approximately 30% of the firm’s business is supporting upstream exploration and production activities, midstream pipeline and compressor station projects and downstream projects, including CNG filling station and end-user development. Notable projects include: well pad design and layout, metering stations, interconnect facilities and compressor stations.
The firm’s resume also includes centralized water distribution systems, intake and pumping facilities, electrical distribution and controls, impoundment and water storage design, re-use treatment facility design and permitting, well pad facility design and midstream piping and facility design.
