An Exclusive Tour of the School of Petroleum & Natural Gas

Immediately following the presentation, the School of Petroleum & Natural Gas opened its doors to those in attendance as well 100 prospective high school students from neighboring district. Those who participated visited the different classrooms at the center, each with a specific area of focus, learning about the hands-on opportunities at the school. Many service companies like Baker Hughes, MRC, and Surface Equipment Corporation took part in the open-house, setting up equipment and displays to help contextualize a few of the many opportunities an education from the School of Petroleum and Natural Gas will create. Recent graduates and current students were on hand to discuss what the experience at the school was like including Harry Robb, who was graduating the next day from the program. Harry interned with Cabot last year and is optimist about his future in the industry. Due to the weather, the recently completed outdoor PNG laboratory was inaccessible for most of the day; however, many observed how impressive it looked from a distance. This new lab, created as part of the Cabot endowment, will provide students with a working simulation of a typical Marcellus Shale well site, gathering side-dehydration and natural gas measurement. Components of the laboratory where procured through multiple industry partners including Williams and DTE Energy. Linde Corporation deserves special recognition here, donating its expertise and labor to build, assemble and connect the outdoor laboratory over the last two months. Plans are ongoing to expand the lab to include typical well site equipment from other petroleum and natural gas production regions across the country.
