Hey everyone! My name is Maria Turconi (my friends call me Mia) and I am making my Well Said debut as Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation’s new External Affairs Intern for summer 2014. I’ve only been here a few days and so far there hasn’t been a dull moment. I am preceded by what seems like a long string of awesome External Affairs Interns so I know I have big shoes to fill.

I just completed my sophomore year at Penn State University Park, where I am majoring in Public Relations with minors in Business and Sociology.  I actually met Brittany and George when they came and spoke to one of my Communications classes this past year. I kept in touch with them throughout spring semester and now I’m working across the hall!
At school I was part of Happy Valley Communications, a student-run PR firm, PRSSA and the Outreach team for Penn State’s EcoCar2. These opportunities allowed me to gain experience writing social media content, blogging and event planning.
My knowledge of the Oil and Gas industry is limited but I come from a long line of engineers so I am not easily frightened by technical terms or numbers. My father, the engineer, and fellow Penn Stater taught me the value of analytical thinking, rulers and pocket protectors. However, I got my love of writing and talking, from my mother.  My mom, the daughter of another engineer, who rebelled and majored in social sciences, is the reason I chose the Penn State for the College of Comm and not Engineering. She was a Political Science and Philosophy major and has since received a second Masters to practice Social Work. All in all I lucked out in the genetic lottery with one right brained person and one left brained person for parents. Both of these influences will come in handy here at Cabot.
I am excited to dive in and work with Brittany and George to share Cabot’s message and mission with the public. I’ve only been here for less than a week and I have already worked quite a bit on Cabot’s new Intranet site. The launch is only a few weeks away and I’ve been helping to iron out any bugs and determine what content needs to be added.
From what I’ve gathered thus far, I am in for a busy summer. Good thing the office offers a variety of post-its and a working coffee machine.
