Our #FF this week is @CHKmarcellus, the voice of Chesapeake Energy Marcellus Shale. Chesapeake Energy (@Chesapeake) is one of the largest producers of natural gas in the nation. Why you should follow @CHKmarcellusWe follow @CHKmarcellus because it focuses specifically on Marcellus Shale, and hey, we love Marcellus. As a subsidiary Twitter handle of the larger @Chesapeake, we get the knowledge and credibility of one of America’s largest producers of natural gas with the tailored Marcellus Shale information we love. The enormity of Chesapeake Energy’s Company allows for numerous specialized Twitter handles. Quite often, the handles retweet news from other sectors of the company, which allows for an extended accessibility to natural gas news. That’s a lot of retweets!@CHKmarcellus takes the time to explain some of the industry’s more confusing jargon – all in 140 characters or less. The company often tweets “industry insider” definitions of specific drilling procedures and natural gas terms for the general public’s understanding.Q & A with Rory Sweeney from Chesapeake Energy Marcellus So who is the mastermind behind the informative @CHKmarcellus tweets? The answer is Rory Sweeney, Media Relations Coordinator at Chesapeake Energy for North Eastern Pennsylvania. We asked him some questions about Chesapeake’s crusade for clean, affordable and abundant domestic energy, and he answered.Q: Time for the truth: Just how many Twitter handles does Chesapeake have, and what are they? Chesapeake strives to stay as connected to its local communities as possible, so we’ve developed Twitter accounts for our main headquarters (@Chesapeake), all of our regional plays (@CHKmarcellus, @CHKutica, @CHKhaynesville, @CHKeagleford, @CHKbarnett, @CHKrockies), company information (@CNGnow, @fracfacts) and one of our subsidiaries (@NOMACdrilling); 11 in total.Q: Do you ever get to interact with the other handles and their followers? On a daily basis, actually. Each account is maintained by an employee local to that region, and we are often in contact as we attempt to direct online requests to the appropriate outlets. Many times, people will ask very specific questions of the first Chesapeake account they encounter, and we have to connect them with the ones that will be most helpful. Finding Chesapeake online is not very hard, and that’s the way we want it.Q: All of your handles encourage people to ask questions. Why do you focus so much on interactivity? We love talking about the big picture. While we aren’t always able to respond immediately, we’ve developed user policies to govern what to expect and what we expect. This mutual understanding has worked well to help folks understand that our social media outlets, especially our Facebook page, are a place for becoming familiar with us as a company.  It’s also had the benefit of helping folks in the community connect with each other. Feel free to start a conversation with us about energy needs, domestic-energy production, transportation-fueling alternatives or how natural gas fits into tomorrow’s low-carbon energy portfolio.
