On a cold November morning in Midland, TX, more than a dozen Coterra employees rose to the challenge and competed in the Energy City Race. The ECR is in its eighth year and has been raising money for the Cameron Stotts Foundation. Cameron began the race in 2015 but tragically lost his life in 2018 when he was struck by a drunk driver while out cycling.

The ECR has multiple races to join, including a 1K, 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon. The 10K holds special meaning for Coterra, however. It’s in memory of former employee Mike Mestas, whose life was also taken in the drunk driving accident with Cameron. Through this race, we continue to preserve and honor his memory.

Phillip Knight highlighted Coterra’s ongoing sponsorship and engagement with the 10K and the ECR overall. He thanked us for keeping Mike’s legacy going and challenged us to double our runners to 30 in 2023.

After the Race, Michael DeShazer commented, “Mike Mestas was a fantastic family man, did great work for Cimarex, and consistently pushed himself physically. He loved to race alongside his work colleagues, and we love the opportunity to support this event in his honor. Mike is truly missed by those who knew him, and this race allows him to live on in our treasured memories.”

Congrats to those who ran the race and those who recall Mike’s legacy.
