Coterra Energy was proud to participate in the New Mexico Oil and Gas Association’s (NMOGA) Annual Meeting this October, an event dedicated to discussing key issues and opportunities within the state’s energy sector. The conference brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and community members to explore how New Mexico’s oil and gas industry can drive economic progress, uphold environmental commitments, and support educational initiatives that prepare the next generation of energy leaders. With an agenda that included sessions on legislative and regulatory landscapes, energy education, and industry innovation, the event underscored the importance of collaborative, science-based solutions to tackle current and future challenges.
As part of the day’s programming, Coterra Energy’s Senior Vice President of Operations, Blake Sirgo, spoke on the “Opportunities & Challenges for NM Operations” Executive Panel, sharing insights from his extensive experience in New Mexico’s energy landscape. Sirgo, a third-generation oil and gas professional with deep roots in the region, emphasized the importance of grounding industry policies in science and technology, stating, “Policies must be constructed through science and technology, not by ideology.” With a New Mexico workforce that’s dedicated to safe and efficient production, Coterra Energy is committed to maintaining a 99.75% gas capture rate—an achievement that reinforces our dedication to sustainable operations.

Sirgo also highlighted the unique geological assets of New Mexico, particularly the Permian Basin’s prolific subsurface. “It’s not just the land of enchantment above the ground; the subsurface in New Mexico is phenomenal,” he remarked, pointing to the region’s world-class geology that enables the Permian Basin to be one of the most productive oil-producing regions globally.
Beyond the resources, Sirgo expressed a personal connection to the state and its people: “Frankly, the people are fantastic. We have a remarkable New Mexican workforce.” From his first job outside Carlsbad to his ongoing role in building Coterra Energy’s operations in southeast New Mexico, Sirgo’s appreciation for New Mexico’s communities and workforce remains strong.
In addition to Sirgo’s panel appearance, Coterra Energy was also the proud sponsor of NMOGA’s Membership Breakfast, a gathering where industry leaders connected on the shared goal of advancing responsible energy production across New Mexico. Our company remains dedicated to the state’s sustainable energy future, leveraging both cutting-edge technology and the expertise of local professionals to continue a legacy of responsible operations in the Permian Basin.
