We just exited National Safety Month 2012, and in honor of a safe month at Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, we’d like to take some time to discuss what we’re doing to promote the health and safety of everyone involved with Cabot.According to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA,) “worker safety awareness is necessary for injury prevention during all phases of drilling operations.” Cabot is committed to its employees’ health and safety at every level. This includes the men and women on each well pad, the people driving company vehicles and the individuals sitting in a conference room.We also strive to practice exemplary operations so that the health and safety of our communities and landowners is met with excellence. Cabot promotes and encourages its employees to work under the utmost safety standards through intense trainings, through the use of safety gear and by employing the safest practices and techniques both on and off the well pad.America’s Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA) points out in this safety video that regulations, both state and federal, “govern all aspects of operations – from initial permits to workers’ safety to safe handling of the chemicals used.” According to ANGA, these safety measures allow oil and gas companies like Cabot to “help ensure responsible access to the economic opportunities while protecting the local environment.”In just one show of how Cabot’s employees’ are embracing safety, our Grantsville, W.Va., district has developed and practiced a culture of safety so strong that they’ve not experienced a preventable vehicle accident since October of 2006. Randy Spencer, Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager for Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, is proud of the team for their impressive safety record.“The leadership as well as the workforce should be congratulated,” Spencer said. “When you begin to develop and buy into the culture of safety, people start believing in it and you start hitting these milestones.”The 43 drivers of the district, which is made up of the Glasgow, Grantsville and Sissonville field offices, recently celebrated six million miles of safe driving. Team members, composed of management, operators and anyone else with keys to a company vehicle, totaled an average of 140,000 miles toward the six-year and six million mile endeavor.The team’s driving milestone certainly distinguishes Cabot as a company committed to the safety of its employees and the communities in which they live and work. Cabot employees in every office, district and capacity look to the Glasgow District team as a source of inspiration. We’re proud of them and their unwavering commitment to safety. Before his time with Coterra Energy, Bill was the original Field Director for Energy in Depth’s Northeast Marcellus campaign. Within this two-year position, Bill worked to engage, educate, and mobilize supporters of Marcellus Shale development across New York and Pennsylvania. Bill received his B.S. in Management, a B.A. in History, and an MBA from Misericordia University.
