Last week the Penn State Marcellus Center for Outreach and Research brought their Natural Gas Utilization Conference to Pittsburgh. The Utilization Conference is a great event that brings together so many aspects of the natural gas industry – from manufacturing to a look at the global market to power generation to infrastructure.
The Utilization Conference does a great job of bringing experts in from local governments, private companies, large companies, and various industries to really paint a broad picture of the status of natural gas both in the United States and in the world.
One of Cabot’s goals is help give students access to world-class conferences such as this one. With registration fees often times outside of the budget of the typical college student, it can be a bit difficult t attend. So Cabot created a Scholarship Program to allow students from local colleges and universities to attend both days of the conference at no cost to them. Twelve students attended from the University of Pittsburgh, Waynesburg University, and Westmoreland County Community College.
We asked the students to write a few words about the conference, what they learned and how it impacts their future career path and will share those over the coming weeks.
Today’s guest blog post is by Ashley Burk – Communications & Public Relations Intern for Seneca Resources:
I recently joined Seneca Resources as a Public Relations and Communications Intern and considering I am completely new to the industry, I do not know much about natural gas.
The PSU Natural Gas Utilization Conference gave me the perfect opportunity to learn more about the industry and gain valuable insight on numerous topics and network with many people who work in the field. I especially liked how during the second day there were three different sessions you could choose to attend. I attended the Appalachian Projects Related to Natural Gas Development session and got to learn about some of the current projects occurring in the Appalachian Basin and some of the obstacles they have had to face to keep their projects moving forward.
What I learned at the conference will definitely help contribute to becoming more knowledgeable about the current status and future of the industry. I plan on using what I learned at the conference and applying it to what I have already learned at my internship so I can continually improve and further my public relations career in the industry.
