Each October something impactful happens: products at the grocery store turn pink, professional sports teams turn in their old gloves for pink ones, and businesses announce their donations towards helping to end breast cancer forever. This year, Cabot is proud to announce a partnership with local nonprofits to do more than spread awareness – we’re taking action.
This summer we talked about the Baker Hughes initiative called “Doing Our Bit” which is a partnership between the company and the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Here’s the story about the hot pink bit that aired on WNEP.

Except we’re an oil and gas company and while we can drill a mile down and a mile out to reach natural gas reserves, we don’t exactly have the expertise to tackle a project like this alone. So we needed to reach out to some friends, both old and new, to find a way to pull something together.
But the great news is, we have some friends over at Endless Mountains Health Systems and they’re pretty darn good at that stuff. And we had the pleasure of working with Dolly Woody of Susan G. Komen Northeastern Pennsylvania while filming the pink bit video in the summer. Plus, we were familiar with the work that the Community Foundation of the Endless Mountains does on a daily basis, and particularly in the group called Women Helping Women.
And so with all of our new partners, we set out to make a true difference in the community. There are many uninsured women who cannot afford a yearly exam by a physician. In fact, exams can typically cost hundreds of dollars.
After brainstorming, Women Helping Women agreed to host a fund that would go directly towards paying for expenses of uninsured women and EMHS agreed to give exams at the very discounted rate of $200 per woman. Cabot donated $10,000 directly to the fund and Women Helping Women gave $1,000 immediately. Then we opened it up to the community and as of now, more than $16,000 has been raised!
So what does it all mean?
Spaces for the program are limited, but are open to women regardless of their insurance status. We encourage all women of appropriate age to visit a health care provider for an annual screening. Call Valerie Brewer at (570) 278-3801 x1120 to schedule an appointment.

More than anything, we’re happy to announce that this isn’t a “one and done” campaign. Any funds not utilized this year will go directly towards paying for exams next year as we continue to work towards giving each woman a chance for early detection.
